HEAT-INSYDE is an Innovation Action (IA) funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. With an industry-dominated consortium, HEAT-INSYDE brings together all relevant stakeholder groups in the value chain for making a heat battery a concrete solution for affordable, compact, and long-term performance in sustainable energy provision.
- 12 industry and research partners
- 7.7 million euro budget from the EU (plus additional contributions from the involved industry partners)
- 1 October 2019 to 31 March 2024
The primary objective of HEAT-INSYDE is to provide a heat storage solution that can effectively and efficiently help meet Europe’s target in the transition to renewable energy systems.
HEAT-INSYDE aims to:
- Advance a thermochemical heat storage system to a compact domestic heat storage prototype at a Technology Readiness Level 7.
- Deliver an affordable, highly compact heat storage solution (< 1 m3) with robust, long term (> 25 years) performance.
- Balance central (grid) and decentral renewable energy supply, allowing configuration in both heat and electricity systems and creating new opportunities for grid flexibility.
- Follow a user-centric approach with real-life demonstrations in 3 different European climate zones.
